Christopher D. Joyce is an associate at Neiman Mays Floch & Almeida PLLC. He maintains a hybrid practice that includes privacy and cybersecurity matters, commercial litigation, and government enforcement actions and investigations. Through this practice, Chris has developed robust experience with counseling companies, boards, and individuals at each stage of high-stakes matters across a wide range of substantive fields. Chris pairs this experience with rigorous analysis and practical judgment in order to resolve clients' problems before they escalate.
Chris's experience representing clients in sensitive internal investigations and in response to government inquiries runs the gamut from compliance and executive issues to defending against government enforcement actions brought by regulators such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In addition, Chris has defended clients in complex commercial litigation matters in both state and federal courts. These matters have involved compliance with state unfair competition laws and state and federal data privacy regulations, intellectual property disputes, and employment discrimination.
In addition, Chris has experience advising clients on privacy, cybersecurity, data protection, and emerging technology matters, including regulatory investigations, data breach response, and compliance with evolving laws and regulations such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and various state biometric privacy laws.
Chris earned his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center and his B.A. in political science, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Florida. After graduating from Georgetown, Chris began his career in the Washington, D.C. office of the international law firm Sidley Austin LLP. Chris served as a Sidley Austin Pro Bono Fellow at the ACLU of the District of Columbia, where he assisted on matters implicating the Hatch Act, the First Amendment, and local political issues in the District, and as a legal secondee at a leading technology and social media company. As a Florida native, Chris is also proud to have been a founding member of Sidley Austin's office in Miami.
